A little about me...
David Schopf is the 6th Grade Math and Science teacher at River Trail School. Mr. Schopf grew up in Momence, Illinois, he is number 7 out of eight children. Upon graduating high school he joined the United States Marine Corps. After serving honorably for 4 years he attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he earned his degree in Elementary Education. He taught for a year in Wilmington, Illinois before working in the private sector. He started teaching at Gurnee Grade School in 2004 and this is his 14th year at Gurnee District 56.
Mr. Schopf has served in several capacities at Gurnee Grade / River Trail school. He has been a librarian, technology teacher, Dean, 2nd & 3rd grade teacher as well as his current position. Mr Schopf’s interest in technology has meshed well with the districts current technology initiatives. He was also the treasurer of the Citizens for D56, the group that helped to pass the referendum that funded the building of Prairie Trail School.
In his spare time, Mr. Schopf enjoys baseball. He is a Freshman coach at Carmel Catholic High School. He is a Certified IHSA Umpire in both Baseball and Softball and has been voluntarily training other umpires for the past 10 years. He is also involved with Gurnee Youth Baseball where he has coached for 8 years and has been a member of the board of directors for 5 years serving as their umpire in chief. Mr. Schopf also spent 5 years as the Cubmaster of Troop 677, in Gurnee.
Mr. Schopf also enjoys cooking and Walking. All three of his children attended Gurnee Grade / River Trail School and have had their father as their teacher.
